For all non-medical science students, the most fascinating line of study is Engineering. In India especially, there is a long tradition of producing world-class engineers that have done path-breaking work in the field of engineering. The field is so fascination and with so many possibilities that it is no wonder that students want to opt for engineering courses after passing Class 12. There is no dearth of colleges in India that offer engineering courses in various streams. There are not just central universities, IITs and regional universities that offer engineering courses, there are also private and aided universities that have come up to offer respectable engineering courses in India.

The central body that governs the affairs of these engineering colleges is All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). The body is mainly responsible for governing and monitoring the courses offered at these colleges. It also has the authority to acknowledge and approve new courses introduced by these institutes. The engineering courses that are offered by engineering colleges in India can be pursued on full-time, part-time and correspondence basis. Thus, as per the time and location requirements, one can opt to study engineering courses through these mediums. Then, there are also online degree programs that have come up in the recent times to aid students who because of time or other constraints cannot afford to attend regular classes and are still interested in this engineering field. Not all universities offer such online programs so one has to look around to locate a suitable online degree in engineering.

Engineering has many further sub-streams to it. There are various branches of engineering courses that one can apply for as per the interest. The most sought after these days is software and IT engineering. India, in the recent past, has produced world-class software engineers. With the IT revolution of the last decade, this course came into the main focus and has enticed students across the country. All major engineering institutes in India offer software engineering courses. However, being most in demand, the admission to such a course in reputed colleges becomes a little tough as the competition is very high.

Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering is another fascinating field of study. As the name suggests, this engineering course covers the design, creation and operation of machines related to aviation. This includes aeroplanes, helicopters, missiles, rockets, spacecrafts etc. Under this course, the subjects that are taught cover aerodynamics, propulsion, acoustics, avionics and aircraft maintenance. This is also a sought after course as the career opportunities after this course are very lucrative. Being a niche study, there are not many qualified professionals in this field so their demand is always very high. Also, with the aviation industry opening up, the demand for aeronautical and aerospace engineering has shot up.
